Nova Easy Kombucha in San Diego

Before June 2022, “let’s grab some kombucha on the way home” is something you would have never heard us say.

To be clear, we have tried kombucha in the past, both hard and non-alcoholic, and most of the time felt like we were drinking carbonated vinegar mixed with a dab of ripe Kiefer.

To say we were skeptical of trying kombucha again is an understatement. We live near several places that produce and sell kombucha and usually wave, smile, and walk faster.

One of those spots is Nova Easy Kombucha in Ocean Beach, San Diego. On occasion, we like to head to OB to check out the weekly farmer’s market, and we’ll usually grab a beer and dinner while we’re there.

During a recent visit to the OB farmer’s market, we heard that Nova Easy Kombucha might serve beer and decided to check it out for ourselves.

We walked into the airy taproom on Newport and were greeted with a big smile from the bartender.

The first question asked, “have you tried our kombucha’s before” was quickly met with our resounding, “we don’t like kombucha.”

“Great, I’m glad you’re here. Our kombuchas are not like anything you’ve ever tasted. Are you open to trying something new,” said the bartender.

Reluctantly we agreed to try a flight of their customer’s top flavors: Watermelon, Mint; Sexy Mojito; Mango Ginger; Mango Chili; Cactus Fruit, Agave, Jalapeño; and the Sexy Piña Colada.

About to taste a flight of Nova Easy Kombucha

We grabbed a glass, cheered each other, and took a sip.

 “Damn,” we said.

“That was good. That was hella good.”

No vinegary taste. No ‘Mike Tyson Punch-Out’ of sourness.

So, we tried another flavor and another.

By that time, everything was tasting really good, so we bought a couple of four-packs of hard kombucha and one of the non-alcoholic recovery kombucha before heading to the farmer’s market.

After a few hours at the market and dinner, we headed home and couldn’t stop talking about how much we liked each flavor.

Hiking Kombucha

Anybody that has spent time in San Diego knows that May and June are gloomy months, and after a couple of weeks of non-stop marine layer, we took a quick trip to the Anza Borrego State Park to bask in that desert sun.

For our trip, we brought a four-pack of Cactus Fruit, Agave, Jalapeño, and Watermelon, Mint for a nice post-hike beverage and to drink at the pool.

We hiked the Slot Canyon in Anza Borrego, and a tall can of the Cactus Fruit goes down nice and smooth in that blazing desert heat.

Side Note: Most Nova Easy Kombucha has an alcohol by volume (ABV) of 6%, with some as high as 8%, and they taste like zero percent alcohol. That said, always drink responsibly, especially when hiking in the desert heat.

Later that evening, we laughed at how easy the Nova Kombucha drink was, and we celebrated the following day when we woke up without a nasty hangover we tend to get from drinking India pale ales.

Novo Brazil Taproom - Lane Ave

A few weeks after our trip to Anza Borrego, we were in the neighboring community of Chula Vista and heard there was a taproom nearby.

This time, we couldn’t pull up the directions to the Novo Brazil Taproom fast enough. This taproom is in a newer development in Chula Vista, and the location is HUGE! They have ample parking, indoor seating and tables on the patio. They also serve food and beer at this location.

The Novo Brazil spot is a great place to grab a drink solo, watch sports on the various big-screen TVs, or have an excellent after-work gathering or family party.

Final Word

If you’re already a fan of Nova Easy Kombucha, we don’t have to convince you because you already know what time it is.

If you are like we were two months ago, we highly encourage you to try Nova Easy Kombucha.

Since our first visit to the OB taproom, Nova Kombucha has become a staple in our cooler and road trips. We are confident it will become a staple in yours too!
